With the first vines planted in the 1880's, wine growing in the Edna Valley and Arroyo Grande Valley stretches back to the early days of California viticulture. Due to the unique geography of the South Central Coast, both valleys have east-west orientations and are distinguished by the extensive maritime influence on the climate and soil.

Indeed, some of California's favorite year-round beaches are located in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties. Pismo Beach State Park allows beach-camping, and many other recreation opportunities such as hiking, biking, and outdoor activities such as kayaking and surfing. A light cool ocean breeze can be expected daily creating a cooling effect that produces an unusually long growing season, resulting in greatly intensified variety of flavors. Annual rainfall is between 15" and 30" per year with a rainy season lasting from October to April. The average frost free season ranges between 250 and 325 days per year depending on location. With high temperatures averaging 80 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer and 60 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter, Shell Beach offers a really nice environment to live in and a perfect place to buy your next home
